It wasn’t long ago that digital marketers and SEO providers maintained separate businesses with entirely different models. That’s no longer the case. It is getting harder to find a firm that offers digital marketing with no SEO services, and vice-versa. Today’s digital marketer is an SEO specialist. Today’s SEO provider also handles digital marketing.
If you are curious as to why, consider something known as the Google Search Console. This online space is where a typical digital marketer or SEO provider goes to get data on search engine performance. The Search Console offers a ton of information. Much of it is confusing if you’re not familiar with the terms.
Discovered But Not Indexed
Any SEO provider worth his salt understands that Google, Bing, and the other search engines do not index every page on the web. There are just too many. Those that are not indexed will never show up in search results. This can be a problem when websites aren’t set up properly.
That being the case, one of the most frustrating errors to find in the Google Search Console is the following: discovered-currently not indexed. This warning tells you that pages have been discovered by Google’s crawlers but, at the present time, search algorithms have chosen not to display the pages. But why? And what can you do to fix it?
No One Really Knows for Sure
If you click the ‘Learn More’ link to find out why these pages haven’t been indexed, this is the explanation Google provides:
“The page was found by Google, but not crawled yet. Typically, Google wanted to crawl the URL but this was expected to overload the site; therefore Google rescheduled the crawl.”
This sounds like a reasonable explanation on a very large site that Google crawlers are working on for the very first time. But it baffles the mind on a site with fewer than 50 pages that has only been up for a month or two. That should be plenty of time for Google to recrawl and index. And yet, it can take 6 months to a year to resolve this problem.
There are things digital marketers and SEO providers can do as a workaround. However, they need to know what those things are. A digital marketer that doesn’t get into SEO would have no idea how to fix this. And so, without direct knowledge or paid SEO services, a website owner would get very little value from digital marketing as long as his site’s pages are not being indexed.
A Lot to Know About Search Engines
Salt Lake City’s Webtek Digital Marketing sums it all up by explaining that there is a lot to know about search engines. Webtek has been in the business for many, many years. They cut their teeth on SEO. But these days, they are no longer so limited. The company offers SEO services, digital marketing services, content creation, pay-per-click advertising, and more.
Webtek team members are constantly learning and upgrading their skills. They put as much effort into maintaining a solid knowledge of search engine functions as they do maximizing their marketing efforts. They have to. Search engines are constantly evolving and changing, requiring that digital marketers and SEO providers keep up.
Keeping SEO and digital marketing services separate was okay when the public internet was new. Companies could still get away with it even 10 years ago. But that won’t fly in the 2020s. The modern internet calls for combining SEO and digital marketing services into one comprehensive package. The two are virtually inseparable under the current internet environment.
